The Begining
The Service Spread Overseas!
1921 : New Zealand was the first country to establish the profession of school dental nurses, who later became known as dental therapists. This initiative was driven by a need to address the widespread dental decay among children.
1923 : The New Zealand School Dental Service (SDS) was officially launched. Dental nurses were trained specifically to provide preventive and basic restorative dental care to schoolchildren. This program was highly successful and became a model for other countries.

Our Service in Our Country
The School Dental Service in Sri Lanka is a vital part of the nation's public health system, dedicated to enhancing the oral health of school-aged children. This program provides preventive, educational, and basic curative dental care within the school environment, ensuring that children receive the necessary dental attention from an early age.
Our School Dental Service has significantly improved the oral health of school children across Sri Lanka. By reducing the prevalence of dental decay and other oral health issues, we contribute to better overall health outcomes for children. Increased awareness about the importance of oral health among children and parents is another key achievement of our program.
