Beyond the School Gate: Bringing Healthy Smiles to Every Child
Government School Dental Therapists conduct oral health programmes and mobile dental clinics during the school vacation The school vacation has provided a valuable opportunity for Government School Dental Therapists to extend their services beyond the school environment and reach children at Child Development Centers. As part of this community-based initiative, Dental Therapists are conducting interactive oral health awareness programmes together with mobile dental clinic services, bringing essential preventive dental care closer to children. Through child-friendly education sessions, children are guided on proper tooth brushing, healthy dietary habits, the importance of fluoride toothpaste, and the value of maintaining good oral hygiene from an early age. The Mobile Dental Clinic further strengthens the programme by providing opportunities for oral health screening, early identification of dental problems, preventive care and appropriate referrals when necessary. Caregivers and Child Development Center staff are also educated on how they can support children’s daily oral hygiene and encourage healthy habits. This initiative demonstrates the commitment of Government School Dental Therapists to preventive healthcare, community outreach and equitable access to oral health services. By utilizing the school vacation period to reach children beyond the traditional school setting, Dental Therapists are helping to build healthier habits and healthier smiles from childhood. From awareness to action, from prevention to healthier smiles. Government School Dental Therapists’ Association of Sri Lanka Promoting Oral Health • Preventing Disease • Empowering Communities
