World Oral Health Day Activities Conducted by School Dental Therapists

In celebration of World Oral Health Day, School Dental Therapists organized a series of oral health promotion programs targeting preschool children, school students, and teenagers with the aim of improving awareness regarding the importance of good oral hygiene and preventive dental care. The programs were conducted in preschools and schools within the community as part of ongoing efforts to promote healthy oral health habits among children and adolescents. Various educational and interactive activities were carried out according to the age groups of the participants. For preschool children, special attention was given to developing positive tooth-brushing habits from an early age. Dental therapists conducted tooth-brushing demonstrations using models and visual aids to teach correct brushing techniques. Simple and child-friendly oral health messages were delivered to encourage children to brush twice daily, reduce sugary foods, and maintain clean teeth for a healthy smile. Interactive games, songs, and educational activities helped create an enjoyable learning environment for young children. School students also participated actively in oral health education sessions focusing on the prevention of dental caries and gum diseases. Discussions were conducted regarding healthy dietary habits, the importance of fluoride toothpaste, and regular dental check-ups. Posters, presentations, and awareness materials were used to improve students’ understanding of oral health and its relationship to overall health. Special programs for teenagers addressed common oral health concerns seen during adolescence. Topics such as oral hygiene during orthodontic treatment, effects of sugary drinks, smoking and tobacco-related oral diseases, bad breath, and the importance of self-care were discussed. Teenagers were encouraged to take responsibility for their oral health and adopt healthy lifestyle practices. These awareness programs also emphasized the importance of collaboration among parents, teachers, and healthcare professionals in promoting healthy oral habits among children. Teachers and parents appreciated the valuable educational sessions provided by the School Dental Therapists. The successful implementation of these World Oral Health Day activities reflects the commitment and dedication of School Dental Therapists in promoting oral health within the community and supporting children and adolescents in achieving healthier smiles and healthier lives.
